Storyteller
"This sculpture was inspired by a photo of an aboriginal storyteller in "The Family of Man" (published by the Museum of Modern Art in 1955) but morphed into what you see here. I am particularly fond of this work because for two or three years I was a regular storyteller for children at The New School, in Blacksburg, Virginia. I certainly tried to deliver surprises like this "Storyteller" is doing, though I don't have his hair! I wish my mother, a grade school librarian, were alive to see this sculpture--I know she would want a copy for her library. Perhaps you can think of a library where it might be appreciated and enjoyed, too. I am making this signature work available through a Limited Edition series of twelve issues, each one cast in bronze, each one with its own number. It is a substantial piece, with a height of 23" & width from fingertip to fingertip of 24". Each issue will be mounted on a polished stone base. Calling the Powers
"This is a reprise of my much-loved original, cast in bronze by Steven Strumlauf of Charlottesville VA, which was purchased by the Roanoke (Virginia) Arts Council for the Ann Masters Memorial Garden along the Roanoke Greenway (near Black Dog Salvage) in about 2010. From time to time since then, people have asked if I had a copy available to purchase, or could produce one. The molds were long gone, however. Finally, in 2022, moved by a particularly ardent request, I decided to begin from scratch and sculpt a new one. This version is 24" high x 26" wide, fingertip to fingertip. It is a Limited Edition work of twelve issues; thus far, Issues #1 and #2 have been purchased. Ten issues remain available. The first two issues are presently being cast in bronze by Carolina Bronze Sculpture in Seagrove NC, and should be completed sometime in February or March, 2024. The price per issue is $30,000. Shipping or delivery is negotiable. If you are interested in owning an issue of this signature work, please contact me through this website."
"Sculpture is my portal. As I shape, I see. The clay becomes me."
