I thought about carving the whole 30' of tree with just an axe and a big chisel, but decided I might like to do a few other things before I died, so used a chain saw instead. It took three sections of 10' scaffolding to carve out the top sections that you see here.

I might have finished carving the tree, but the carpenter ants were (and are) still at it, though you can't see them in the picture.
